Seasonal Sunday - Thoughts on the meaning of the season

When I was asked to participate in the Seasonal Sunday posting by The Tablescaper, I sort of knew what I wanted to post as far as the arrangement was concerned, but I wanted to embrace her request, and addresss what the season means to me as well. As I thought about the 'season', like most my thoughts turned to family, food, gatherings and giving thanks. I wanted to expresss all of that in one photograph, and decided the collection of old family photographs in the equally as old secretary would provide the perfect backdrop.
Enjoying a cup of tea with them beside me is my reflection on the meaning of the season - family.

This old secretary, found many years ago
at the Red Barn on Long Island
is keeper of our family portraits

A closer view where you can see the pics a little better.
There are some here who entered America through Elis Island

Now - on to the setting

This is part of a set I have by Royal Worcester.
It's called Hookers Fruit and has an extensive collection
 of serving and decorative pieces.
The teaspoon is a consignment store find from Connecticut.

A close up view of the fruit pattern.
There are several different pattens in the set.
And will be more postings of this -  I just love it!

One more close up

Here's wishing you a blessed holiday season

Thanksgiving Breakfast

This year I decided that before I got cooking, and the guests arrived, I would sit down with the family and have a nice relaxed breakfast. So, I set the table in the kitchen with festive fall elements to make it special.
The view outside seemed to sense my mood, and the Bradford Pear was in full color!

I used a few everyday items, and just enough of
the Evesham china to make it "special"

The charger is a brown translucent glass that has a
tree bark pattern.

No, I'm not serving soup for breakfast, but
the tureendoes keep those
wonderful cheesy eggs my husband makes for
 holiday breakfasts, nice and hot!

Close up of the Tureen. I love the little
 acorn accents-
so fall -like!

Of course there is a rooster nearby!

Ok, one more view before I get to work!

Alright, maybe one more.

Wishing you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving at the Junction

November at the Junction is a beautiful time of year. There is a crisp breeze, punctuated with the familiar aroma of the first burning logs of the season. The leaves have performed their annual display of color and now crunch underfoot. Time to head indoors! I was so excited to plan this years tablescape for Thanksgiving - I was up at 4 AM!! This is one of my favorite holidays. It combines all of my passions - decorating, cooking, baking and of course, family. Weeks before I'm in the planning phase. Days before, I'm decorating the house, setting the table and baking! The night before is when the fun begins as all of my "little chicks" come home to roost. Heaven!
However, because this is the first tablescape for my blog, I was super excited and I have to admit, a little nervous! Undaunted, I forged ahead doing what I have been doing for years - creating a space I hope is all at once elegant, warm, and inviting.
It is a beautiful sunny day, perfect for admiring the polish of the wood and the gleam of the china. So here goes!

Welcome!

When you think of Thanksgiving I know roosters don't come to mind.
However I love them, and the colors in this one work so well with my fall color scheme.
My son liked how proud the rooster appears presiding over the
table in this picture, so I had to include it!

Perfect little tea set from Wegmans grocery store.

Ahhhh the details.

A quiet corner in the diningroom to take in the view.

This is the full setting.

First taking away the little pumpkin soup tureen, you can see the little bread plate.

The dinner plate is Myott Factory "Thanksgiving".

The host seatings boast this beautiful ceramic charger.
Sadly I was only able to find four of them, so the
guest seatings have a solid brown charger as the
background.

I found these several years ago at Target! Love them.

Mmmmm soup...and in such a sweet little Tureen!

Details of the tureen top. Just precious.

I think if you look closely you can see the little pumpkin place card holder.

A view of the opposite side of the dining room.

View into the foyer. Thanks for dropping by!
